You know what’s really fun? Programming to the Inception theme. Not very effective, but you feel epic while programming.
Anyway, just thought I’d throw out some of my current projects. The big one now is one-move chess.
Normally, online chess games are played between two players who pick each other and play a full game against each other. With One Move Chess, however, the server picks a random chess game from a cloud of games. Then you make a single move for the game, and the game goes back into the cloud for someone else to play.
Just a thought.
A roughly square rock lay in the grass, forgotten by everyone. Someone a long time ago had written the words “Tom, 1964 to 1977” with an old grinder, leaving rough letters and burn marks. A 26 year old stood a few feet away, looking at but not seeing the rock. He was thinking of when he was a teenager. Back when he and Tom worked as a bellhop for the only hotel in town.
The boy had seen Tom drift further and further from reality over the years. He always thought someone else would cut Tom off from the drugs. It wasn’t his fault, he told himself - if Tom needed help, he would ask for it. No sense in getting involved.
One day they found Tom behind the hotel. He had died of a drug overdose.
He would have gone to a trade school, learned to be an auto mechanic. There was a girl that Tom never had the nerve to ask out, he was very shy, but he said he’d marry her someday.
The college student came back every year to this desolate grave marker, to apologize for everything he didn’t do. Every year he brought a pair of Nike shoes. Tom was proud of his pair of Nike shoes - He’d saved up his money for a year to buy them. He always talked about how one day he woke up and said to himself to Just Do It.
With these words in mind, the college student turned away and said quietly “You were right, Tom. Just do it.”
